CERL Readiness Check

What this does

CERL — Commercial Engagement Readiness Level — is CAAFI's framework for describing how far a SAF project has actually progressed. It looks at six dimensions, each one a ladder of milestones in the order projects normally reach them.

How it works

Answer the milestones in order, starting at 1. Your ladder score in a dimension is the number of milestones you answer Yes to before your first "not yet". Answer Yes to 1, 2, 3 and 4, then "not yet" to 5, and your ladder score is 4. The six dimensions add up to a CERL score out of 60. Answer "not yet" to milestone 1 and that dimension scores 0, rather than 1.

Milestones you have finished out of order are recorded too. Say you have also done milestone 8. It does not add to your 4, because 5, 6 and 7 are still open — but your report shows it as complete and names what is still needed. So answer everything you can rather than stopping at your first "not yet".

Nothing is collected. This page has no server behind it. Your answers stay in your browser tab, are not stored, and are not transmitted to CAAFI or anyone else. Close the tab and they are gone. To keep your results, use Print report at the end and save it as a PDF.

This is a self-assessment, not a review. CAAFI does not see, check, verify or endorse anything you enter here. The report you produce is self-reported and unverified, and says so on its face.

Expected production start

Announced means a capacity figure a developer has stated. Backed means the same gallons where the project has reached a binding offtake agreement (OARL 10) or a final investment decision (F$RL 10). CERL publishes backed and announced gallons separately, because they are not the same claim.

Each spoke is one dimension's ladder score, 0 to 10. The shape matters more than the area: a project strong on fuel and engineering but flat on offtake is a different problem from one that is even all the way round. Milestones that are complete but not counted are shown on the strips below.

Dimension by dimension

What the full CERL tool would do with this. In the complete tool, a submitted record is published in anonymized, aggregate form, and the first unmet milestone in each dimension becomes a named ask. When a project's score crosses a threshold that a registered value-chain partner has asked to hear about — an airline, an offtaker, a feedstock supplier — CAAFI makes an introduction. This lite version does none of that. It scores your project and hands you the report.
